I hit an alligator. I’m not sure if it’s totaled or not, but it’s fucked up regardless. I’m not sure if this car has an oil cooler radiator up front but I’m praying that I killed that and not the oil pan, but I’m not crossing my fingers.

Yeah, that cooler is gone. Oil pan is sturdier than the cooler, but I’d check for damage anyway.

Florida Man Gator Strikes Again!
Damn that sucks. Was the Alligator totaled as well?

Things I did not expect someone to hit today for 1000, Alex...

luckily most insurance considers wildlife strikes as a no-fault incident. so they should cover the damage or at least cut you a check. you didnt fuck up, that alligator did

So selfish... how is the gator?
Now you only have a wrenching project... gator might have a headache.

I will take it off your hands if you want. I have been looking for a wrenching project...

Sorry, that must be really frustrating.

Claim it, for sure. Also, change your username to:
Jake-Hits alligators so you don’t have to

If the frame is off by even one degree, it’s totaled. Hoping for the best.

LOL

Shit, man. That sucks. Best of luck, hope the frame wasn’t tweaked.

Any airbag deployment?

A tire, but it might has well have been an alligator lol.

Rubber road gator, or gator gator?
![]() 05/25/2018 at 10:04 |

No bag deployment at all.

Damn. And I was just wondering about you. Unfortunately I’m 99% sure there’s no external oil cooler. Does it still run?
![]() 05/25/2018 at 10:20 |

I don’t think it will be. It looked like oil cooler took the brunt of the impact.

That is a bit of good news at least. Hopefully it doesn’t take too much to get it back in shape, but sorry to see it happen to you.

OOOOOOFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!
Glad you’re OK. That very much looks like an oil cooler up front. So long as you shut it down right away, you’re engine is probably fine.

Ah, hitting a tire, I know how that can go . Still, you got a lot more damage than I did, my sympathy.

status of gator? did i die? are you going to eat it?

And I bet that goddam alligator doesn’t even have any insurance.
But look at the bright side! New shoes.
![]() 05/25/2018 at 10:59 |

That sucks. New cooler, new bumper, fresh liquids and you should be done, right?

Is that a heat exchanger for oil or ATF pictured there? Almost definitely not coolant lines running to it, I don’t think anyway. Fluid looks more like oil than ATF to me, but you would certainly know better than I as to what we’re looking at.

Sux, hit a dinosaur, nbd.
Looks like the oil cooler joint drivers side - right about gator eye level..

Upside: New boots!

Just looked it up because apparently my memory is terrible, but it’s an engine oil cooler.

THAT is what totalled looks like. AND it still cost LESS than the total loss payout (retaining the car of course) to get it fixed.
Even if it is “totaled” it isn’t totaled.

Out of curiosity, what was yours valued at? I refuse to let this car slip away into th night. The only way this car will slip out of my grasp is if there’s frame damage which I don’t suspect there will be, or more likely massive internal engine damage due to being run without oil. I got over and got the engine switched off as soon as I could, just before the red stop engine message came up. I’m hoping it won’t be totaled but if they base the value only on blue book I’ll be up the creek.

I want to say it was like $12,300...
Definately over $12,000. And thats with about 30,000 more miles than yours. Just make sure you call your insurance company out on their comps...mine had several S430s and an S350 in the mix.
